Being a model one gets a full access to all wonderful designer pieces and through years she starts to understand what fashion is and how it works. So I find nothing surprising in news that models turn designers. They Do know what they do.
Heidi Klum is probably one of the most versatile models-turned-designers. She has tried herself in designing maternity – Lavish by Heidi Klum for A Pea in the Pod, and Loved by Heidi Klum for Motherhood Maternity, a screen print t-shirt for the US Open in 2008, and trainers for New Balance in 2010.
Despite the fact Anja Rubik hasn’t got the experience of Kate, Elle or Heidi she has already designed a few limited collections of shoes and accessories for Polish label Quazi. She also is the one who stars in the campaign for each collection.

Hudson Jeans company invited her to design for them after just one successful season of her modeling for them. The young beauty created a 20-piece denim collection for the brand. To add to this, Gisele launched a lingerie line Gisele Bundchen Intimates for a Brazilian underwear company Hope.
Natalia Vodianova started designing for Etam Lingerie in the beginning of 2009. She has partnered with French lingerie brand to create a lingerie and swimwear collection called Natalia pour Etam. This collaboration has helped both Natalia and Etam to get to the next level. Etam releases a new collection of luxurious lingerie every season.
Karen Elson has launched her collection for Nine West Vintage America in September this year but it already is largely spoken about. The redhead beauty designed a mixture of antique looking metal frame purses, shoes, headwear and other accessories for the label.
Let’s take Kate Moss, for example. Her all Topshop collectionswere successful. She created pieces that reflected her own style and fans loved that. Besides, she was repeatedly named one of the most stylish women in the world.
Kate has also worked with Longchamp on a collection of bags and Parisian jewelers Fred on a line of silver earrings, necklaces, and other pieces some of which were inspired by her tattoos.
Elle Macpherson’s lingerie line, Elle Macpherson Intimates, was launched in 1990. Since then the company has become very popular with fans offering new collections of chic lingerie every season. The model-turned-designer constantly tries to improve the quality of her lingerie and find new niches to satisfy all her customers’ needs. One of the latest ventures includes production of a maternity bra.

I’m really surprised that so early in my career they allowed me to do this dream, design my own stuff, the Hudson people approached me about doing the line. They asked me to get my inspirations together. I got a bunch of pictures and vintage jeans of my mom’s, and I did some sketches — I do art, so they weren’t that bad, but they weren’t amazing [laughs]. I wrote a lot of details and notes on them. My jeans are a totally different cut than the usual Hudson jeans. It’s a stretch denim and a higher cut on the hip, which I like because I’m a bit shorter, so I like that elongated leg thing

Claudia Schiffer also turned a designer this year. Her first collection has been for Cashmere brand and the German supermodel insists there will be others, also focused on children’s clothing. Speaking about why she decided to start designing Claudia said:
I’ve always had in my head that I want to do it. But it’s very much in its early stages and I’m learning step by step. I want the quality to be absolutely key and I want to go slowly – but there might be a catwalk show at some point in the future.”
Jessica Stam is sure she has good future in designing. She explains how it works for her:
Fashion is something I grew up surrounded by, so now that I’m putting pen to paper the ideas are flying out.”
